Home Decor

Do you like to decorate your room?  When you walk into a room, do you know exactly what colors and what furniture would look great in that space?   Do you like to experiment with colors and try different types of colors on your walls?   Do you know what paint color or wallpaper would brighten a room?  How do you create a feeling of coziness in a family room?  Being an interior designer is all about making a house a home.  The Home Decor project gives you an opportunity to examine space, both inside and out.

This project is for members ages 8-18 years old.  In this project, youth will learn about color, texture, space and home safety.  You will also learn about recycling and reusing items.

Learning experiences:

This project is for members ages 8-18 years old.  In this project, youth will learn about color, texture, space and home safety.

  • Learn about the uses of color and line

This project is for members ages 8-18 years old.  In this project, youth will learn  about “temperature” of color as it influences a feeling of space. Youth will learn how balance, proportion and scale work together to make a project more attractive.

Learning experiences:

  • Learn about the relationship between balance and scale
  • Discover how personal space differs  from the space of others
  • Create a fire escape plan

This project is for members ages 8-18 years old.  In this project, youth will learn about neutrals, color schemes, and movement, and how to use the elements of design to provide a more pleasing home.

Learning experiences:

  • Learn about neutral colors and design elements
  • Discover community space
  • Prepare for severe weather

This project is for members ages 8-18 years old.  In this project, youth will learn about window treatments and bed covers and how to select appropriate items for their needs.

Learning experiences:

  • Apply elements and principles of design to window and bed covers
  • Learn to evaluate personal situations and make decisions
  • Recognize workforce prep skills

This project is for members ages 8-18 years old.  In this project, youth will learn about refinishing and refurbishing furniture.  Youth will learn about caning seats and basic upholstery techniques.

Learning experiences:

  • Apply elements and principles of design to refinishing and refurbishing furniture
  • Learn to evaluate personal situations and make decisions
  • Recognize workforce prep skills
 
Unit 7 
Seniors Only

This project is for members ages 14-18 years old.  This unit is for the advanced member who would like to do an independent study in this area.

Learning experiences:

  • Plan and develop a topic of interest
  • Evaluate a project
  • Create a quality exhibit
